That's what I get ....

IMG_2934, originally uploaded by Mssslaydbug.

Just yesterday I did my blog post about being happy it was Hannah that went to the vet and not me. I'm old enough to know better than to say things like that....it will always come back to haunt you.

In case you didn't know already, I have something called lymphoma and there isn't really anything anyone can do for me. I'm just enjoying soaking in every last minute I can with my family.

I guess both my mom and dad noticed that I've started to pant very heavily and last night they got very worried about me. Next thing I know..... I'm off to the vet this afternoon !! I thought I was done for at least a few more weeks. But mom was worried and decided it was better safe than sorry.

She hugged and kissed me alot before my appointment and there were lots of tears. I licked her and tried to tell her it wasn't my time yet just yet. I don't think she can understand my tail morse code after all these years !!

There was no needles or ultrasounds at the vet today HOORAY !! He mostly sat on the floor with mom and I.

He told her that my lympha-jiggers (what are those?) are swollen and making my throat a little tighter. That's why my bark sounds lighter now, I don't like to eat hard food and my breathing sounds a little harder.

He also said no more hard food for me - VETS ORDERS !! I have a rare allergy to animal protien so I'm also a vegetarian ( hardee har har - let the jokes begin). There are very limited dog foods out there that are vegetarian and the canned ones could be saved for 100 years and not go bad ! So mom gets to cook me home cooked meals !! The vet man gave her some recipe sheets. I can't wait for some pasta, carrots, pumpkin and yogurt to name just a few.

Do you hear that friends ?! No more dog food for me - I'm going to eat like a king !! maybe the vet isn't so bad after all. What took him so long to make that decision ?! I should have acted sicker last time I went if it meant yummy meals !

The vet is going to help mom and dad decide when I need to go to the "bridge". He estimates 3-4 weeks at most. I'll take it ! I need lots more hugs and kisses before then ! I know it makes my family very sad but I've been a good boy and will remember how much they loved me and took extra special care of me !

Until next time furriends ! I'm off to make sure Hannah is behaving and Henry is peepeeing outside !!

  6. Hi Chandler,

You are one of our newest friends, and I had no idea that you've not been feeling well--Our very first Golden that we got had the same thing you do but he was only 5 years old and had to leave us much too soon...Like you, he was very brave, and was always, always so happy! Keep that tail wagging and the updates coming, okay?

  7. You want to do this the cheery way? I'm with you! Right here, I'll cheer you on. Eat all the food you like only. Do as you please, and when you want your furiends, we're here. Say the word. I have a feeling your humans are amazing too. Tons of kisses and licks and hugs and...didn't I say anything you want? I stand by that statement.

  10. Hey Chandler,
Have you had a good life? Are you a happy dog? Don't be afraid of going to The Rainbow Bridge. Our brothers Chance and Gordon are there. They both had cancer too. Rusty, Penny and Old Bear Dog are also at The Bridge, but only Jubal has been here long enough to remember them.
Gordon left us very unexpectedly but we knew Chance would be going about 2 months in advance:

There's no reason for you not to take advantage of the time that you have left. You will be showered with love and affection. We're sure that your mom and dad won't be selfish and will know when it's time for you to go; for this final battle cannot be won. We'll be joining you eventually, but you can play with Chance and Gordon until we arrive. Please tell them that they are still with us in spirit and not a day goes by that we don't think of them; we miss them very much. Maybe you can have a clay impression done of your paw before you go, then that can be made into a glass piece as a rememberance. Perhaps you can leave a lock of your hair for mom and dad to put in a cabinet with your collar and tags. You know that you will always be loved and always be a part of the family. When you go to The Bridge you will make a scar on their hearts that will take some time to heal but it will always be there as a memory of you. We are truly sorry that you will have to say goodbye so soon. "All Dogs Go To Heaven."

  13. Hi Chandler: My name is Gus Dagger and I am a Wire Fox Terrier. I am a BHB (Bumpass Hound Buddy) just like Huffie and a few others here. We think you are wonderfully brave. We are sending extra hugs for you to share with your Hoomans and Fur Sibs, because we know you are getting lots and lots of hugs and special snuggles from them, and they can share the ones from us too.

Your meals sound Yummy. We get our own Pasta efurry once in a while, and it is a treat. And Pumpkin is yummy on Pasta.

We will be checking in. Be very brave for the ones you will leave behind, and say hello to Nigel at the Bridge for us.

  16. Hi Chandler, here we just met you last week and we are seeing this sad post. Hang in there, big guy and fight for all the good times you can have. But when the time is right, know that your humans will do what is best for you and maybe not for them. Our Princess Dakota will be one of the first in line to greet and welcome you once you cross that Bridge. But for now, let's all be happy and celebrate the wonderful life you have.

    Hugs, Phantom and Thunder
